Where Pant has no one, Gilchrist is there
Adam Gilchrist changed the definition of wicketkeeper-batsman. A wicketkeeper can also be one of the team's most reliable batsmen, the Australian star has shown just that. As an opening batsman, his explosive batting in limited overs cricket was a crowd pleaser. Kumar Sangakkara and Mahendra Singh Dhoni got cricket following Gilchrist's path. Currently, Rishabh Pant is also being compared with Adam Gilchrist.
Rishabh Pant filled the void of Mahendra Singh Dhoni well. In some cases, Pant has surpassed even Dhoni. Pant is the only Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to have scored centuries in England, Australia and South Africa. Pant's superb batting played a major role in India's historic victory over Australia in the Brisbane Test in January 2021. Currently, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan, England's Jos Buttler, South Africa's Quinton de Kock are doing well, but Pant is much ahead of them in terms of having an impact on the team.
Like Adam Gilchrist, Pant is the most exciting star in cricket at the moment, 'I think when he steps on the field, he lights up the stage. He creates a great atmosphere. Watching him play is also great for the eyes.'
Of course, there are criticisms about Pant's batting. Many times critics called him 'reckless', 'irresponsible' etc. Especially when Pant came with his own wicket as a result of aggressive batting. But Gilchrist says, this is where everyone should stand by Pant. He requested everyone including BCCI to support Pant.
Gilchrist said, 'BCCI and Indian selectors need to be kind to Pant. They have to be patient. There will be times when Pant fails to score in a few innings. You can't be hard on him at that time. The nature of his batting cannot be spoiled.'
