Windies team against Bangladesh |

Cricket West Indies have announced the squad for the first Test against Bangladesh with three awaiting their debut. Cricket West Indies President's XI has also been announced for the three-day warm-up match against Bangladesh. There are two senior cricketers in the team.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Devon Thomas, left-arm spinner Gurkesh Moti and fast bowler Anderson Phillip are awaiting their debut in the 12-man Test squad. Kemar Roach is out due to injury. Jason Holder is on leave.

All three awaiting their Test debuts have already made their international debuts. The most experienced of them is Thomas who has played four Twenty20s with 21 ODIs so far. Moti played in a T20, he was a reserve in the last T20 World Cup. Philip played three ODIs. Despite being in the squad for the last Test series against England, he did not make his debut in the end. He is now in Pakistan with the team to play ODI series. Along with these three, there is a Test experienced all-rounder Ramon Reifer in the team.

Chief selector Desmond Haynes said: "Devon Thomas has been knocking on the door for some time now. He has done very well in franchise based cricket, we see this as a good opportunity to take him to the team. You see, Ramon Reifer has been taken. Has done well to impress in the four-day competition and against England at the start of the year. As a result, we are giving opportunities to those who are performing. Gurkesh Moti is also bowling well, we think he has a good chance to get involved with the team.

Roach, who suffered an injury while playing for Fertilizer at the County Championships in England, is still under observation. If fit, he will be included in the first Test team as the 13th member. However, the hosts will not get the holder in any edition series. He asked for leave to rest and recover. Batsman Taganarayan Chanderpaul and pacer Sherman Lewis have been named in the Test squad.

The two Tests against Bangladesh will be part of the ICC World Test Championship. West Indies are sixth in the table with 35.61 percentage points. Haynes, the chief selector, is optimistic about getting a point in the Test Championship against Bangladesh, which is at the bottom of the table with 16.6 per cent points.

The first match of the two-Test series will start on June 16 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Earlier, a three-day warm-up match will be played from June 10 to 12. All-rounder Yannick Caria will lead the Cricket West Indies President's XI at the Antigua Coolidge Cricket Ground.
